suggest taking the scanner indoors if at all possible when the temperature gets
too low (say below 50 degrees or so...)
The specifications for operating temperature, according to the 796D manual,
are -4 deg F to +140 deg F.
The range for other Uniden scanners is similar, although there is a separate
(and narrower) operating temperature range for the Close Call feature on the
BC246T.
