All,

Would value your responses/opinions to the following:

As you may be aware, back before Thanksgiving, I purchased a Uniden BC-796
digital trunking scanner. As you may also remember, I'm still fighting the
learning curve on this thing, although I'm getting more comfortable with it.
Well, the other day I tried to use it in the car for the first time, and
it seemed to go into (I dunno what they call it) the mode where it was just
scanning, but not scanning the trunk group IDs. No amount of pushing
buttons for the menus seemed to bring the ID scan mode back, even after I
got it home and hooked it back up to the AC power supply in the house.
After a few minutes of fooling around with it, I decided to blow it away and
reprogram it - at that point it worked fine and seems to be OK since then,
although I haven't tried it again in the car since.

Now for the car... it's a 2001 Chevy Impala, equipped with the police
package (9C1). This includes a higher capacity Bosche alternator. BUT... I
have my suspicions as to how well-regulated the system voltage is, despite
the police electrical system - especially since the car isn't driven much
and had been sitting for as much as 10 days or so before this incident (ie,
battery voltage was perhaps down). I wonder if the car's electrical system
voltage was fluctuating enough that the radio didn't like it and had a
tantrum.

Anybody have any thoughts, and has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thanks!

I'll post this to one or more of the BC-796 user sites as well, but would
love to hear any reactions from this group.

Regards,

Doug
