[Scan-DC] RE: [MilCom] ANG activity on 142.3?

No, Ed -- Air Force is either AFA(2)XX or AFF2VA. I believe you're correct
on NNN and AA callsign prefixes but there are undoubtedly variations for
various officials. AFF2VA is the Virginia State MARS Director for the Air
Force. You MIGHT hear other AFF2X official callsigns but they show up
mostly on HF. One doesn't use the administrative callsign unless one is
conducting official business in the Air Force and that 'business' gets done
more at the Region level, hence the hearing of those callsigns on the HF
nets. You MIGHT hear something from another Region, especially on HF, and
so you might hear a numeral other than "2" in the callsigns. Region 2
extends from VA and W VA down through to FLA and goes as far West as TN and
AL. Cheers. Vic, W4VIC, AFA2KS

143.975 should be either a MARS or a CAP freq. If the calls have an "NNN"
prefix it's Navy MARS, if it's "AAF" it's Air Force and if it's "AA" it's
Army.

Mike,
I am sure you know this but I figured I would throw it out. I have this freq
as in use by the MD ANG A-10s. I am not scanning it as I already have it
tagged and locked out.

It definitely could been someone else but usually when I hear that freq I
generally expect to hear the MD boys up on it.

On a side note. I have been getting good copy on 143.975 in FM. Definite HAM
type comms. I think this is one of the local HAM/MARS nets. Seem like a nice
bunch of folks on there. I may even look into getting involved with that one
of these days.
