While there are several tiny handhelds out there, there isn't anything
that small that does digital trunking - at least not yet. In this area,
unless you're out in Western Md. somewhere, digital trunking is here, like
it or not.
To that end, the current crop of handhelds will work just fine with the
addition of amplified speakers, or better still, a cassette that has a
stereo plug on the end of it that will allow you to feed the audio into
your audio system. I've used one of these for years, and works just fine.
If you are dead set for a mobile solution, if you have a DIN sized hole
you can use or create, the upcoming PRO2096 (due out in Jan) should be
right up your alley, assuming it performs similarly to its PRO96 cousin
(and from the little bits we've seen on Strong Signals, it may well
be). The BC780 remote head project is kinda expensive, but certainly
another possibility, especially if Scanner Master gets it working with the
BC785/BC796 digitals. But do keep in mind, digital in this area is almost a
must these days (unfortunately).
