'No-Fly Zone' Security Exercise Planned For Monday Night
Exercise Will Simulate Airspace Violation
POSTED: 2:49 PM EDT September 27, 2004

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Air Force, homeland security agencies and the
Federal Aviation Administration will hold an exercise Monday night
involving military fighters intercepting simulated airspace violators.

The exercise will commence at 11 p.m. Monday and last approximately
two hours.

The exercise involves scenarios in which a small, single-engine
airplane and a business jet posing as potential intruders fly toward
downtown Washington and are intercepted by Air Force fighters. The
scenarios will take place between 2,500 feet and 15,000 feet in the
greater Washington area, including the "no-fly zone" within 17 miles
of the Washington Monument.

If the exercise is postponed by bad weather, it will be held at the
same time Tuesday.
