[Scan-DC] Discone at beach

Hey All,
I am going to the beach soon and i listen to Jets off of the east
coast(MD,NJ,VA, GK,ETC.)For a couple of years i have been using a RS mobile
antenna mounted to the back of my beach chair.It actually works pretty
good.This time i was thinking about using a discone and just sitting it on
the beach and then running a piece of coax to the scanner.Because the
antenna will be having contact with the sand and not really being put up in
the air will this by anyway affect the way the antenna works?Or should i get
it off the ground?
