Worhtwhile day, confirmed a couple of obvious ones but
ended up with a few I am scrathing my head on. Just
the kind of day I love. Made progress and at the same
time developed freqs where more research is needed.
225.0
The first few hits were a few beeps and tones. hen I
had weak comms, sounded like PAT 112 calling out
repeatedly, or an A/C calling PAT 112 repeatedly. I
have been told that normally this freq is not used, or
programed on A/C UHF radios, because it is on the band
edge and gets comms from the HAM bands. But I am told
that at times if an A/C radio has a problem, loses
power for example, Sometimes an A/C's UHF radio will
"default" and jump to 225.0. I can not confirm this
but thought I would put it out since I had these comes
and remembered what I heard. maybe there are a few
folks out there that confirm or debunk this.
143.75
Brief comms, nothing gained. Quite possibly was an FM
transmission.
277.6
STUMP, Flight of 3 gearing up for ACM in GK area. AS
FRAG -1 waiting for 4th player to show up. ACM
involved 3 groups, no reference to who the rest of the
players were. Nothing mentioned indicating HUNTRESS or
an AWACS was coordinating this, possible that all this
was done on another freq. Was hoping to catch the
HUNTRESS reference before tagging it. RTB through Snow
Hill to LFI. Later in day had TRAP and I did catch
these guys talking to HUNTRESS. Good enough Tagged as
HUNTRESS. Thanks to all who offered up info on this. I
just like to be able to hear enough on a freq for
myself to develope my own suspicioon before taging a
freq. Tagged as HUNTRESS for now and will worry about
detail later.
TRAP F-15C 27th FS 1st FW Langley AFB, Hampton, VA
STUMP F-15C 94th FS 1st FW Langley AFB, Hampton, VA
143.425
Used as interplane between apparent flight of 2. One
of them was troubleshooting something on the cockpit,
and following the checklist. Referenced not having any
pitch ladders, airspeed indicators, no mach
indication, altitude indicators. Had a CADC caution
light, CADC + fail. Said they were direct Baltimore.
Was not able to catch a C/S. So not going to attempt
to tag. Past intercepts are:
FREQUENCY NOTES DATE
143.43 Flight of 3-4 using as interplane. Referenced
calling DEVIL OPS on 138.125 05/07/04
143.43 Used as interplane for apparent flight of 2.
Switch 138.05. Apparent A-G work 05/05/04
336.1
Thunderbirds, flight of 7 setting up an AR IP with
unknown tanker. Thunderbird 03 seemd to be the one
doing the coordinating. Altitude 260. gave tail
numbers of all birds to tanker. I did not bother to
note them. Freq comes back as a known AR freq. I am
tagging it as AR for now and will sweat the deatil
later.
341.9
A/C advising another A/C that his "OCTOPUS" was bent
and he would let them know if he was going to be a
player or not. Later I had 2 A/C landing RWY 14. I
have 341.9"5" as NRWATS at PAX. These guys did not
sound like helos and I doubt any helos would be
landing in tandem on the RWY at PAX. They would have
used the NOC PAD, I would think. But there is a RWY 14
at PAX so I have to assume the freq is PAX related. I
will keep working it.
349.4
Extremely weak comms, nothing gained
307.325
Extremely weak comms, nothing gained
353.8
A/C reporting @ Flt level 240
390.95
Used as interplane but I could not get anything out of
it. Very weak. Think I heard C/S viper but to weak to
be sure.
262.75
Breif hit, verbal comms heard but too short to pull
anything out of.
275.5
Used as interplane but to weak to copy well
273.8
Used as interplane but to weak to copy well
138.075
Flight of 2 discussing how to get around the weather.
Later Heard clear of the weather, ANDREWS in site.
