I saw an interesting NORAD story on TV the other day. The NORAD
commander, four-star Gen. Ralph E. Eberhart, was interviewed by Peter
Jennings (ABC News). Referring to why they did not intercept the 9/11
hijacked airliners he said "It was not an assigned mission. It was not
something we were responsible for at that time. That doesn't make it
right. That doesn't make it OK. And that certainly doesn't make it a
success."

During the 9/11 hearings, Dr Rice said even though they had the Intel
that terrorists had plans to fly hijacked airliners into buildings,
there was nothing that could have been done to stop them. Wonder if Gen
Eberhart is close to retirement or something

NORAD To Run Training Flights Over D.C.
Tuesday May 04, 2004 1:57pm

Washington (AP) - When you see fighter jets flying low over the D.C.
area
the next two days, don't panic. It's just exercise training.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command - NORAD - will run the
training
flights Wednesday and Thursday. You may see fighter jets and other
aircraft
along the Potomac River, as well as other parts of the region. You may
also
hear extra noise from the planes.

NORAD has done these exercises a number of other times since the
September
11, 2001, attacks.
