   Well, a log periodic has a very directional lobe, and not very much of a 
vertical component.  All that means is that a L-P won't
serve you well when going after any mil air stuff in the 138 and 225 mhz 
areas.  Your better bet is a discone type
antenna; I'm sure more than a few have stories about that.  However, I 
understand that the NilJon is a very good
choice.  I'm kinda itching to change my antennas, too, but since I'm not 
working right now, no new radio stuff (DAMN!)
   Anyway, I'm sure folks here, on the Southern Md and Milcom group can 
give you an earful on what they use.  But if
