North East, MD (WJZ) Major concern north of Baltimore Saturday after a CSX
train carrying hazardous chemicals comes off the tracks. It happens just
after noon in Northeast, in Cecil County. The 72 car CSX train was traveling
from Richmond, Virginia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when at least twenty
cars derailed. Eleven of the cars contained harzardous materials; two of
them were holding phosphoric acid, which spilled. For a time...water supply
to parts of Northeast was turned off. Residents in nearly twenty homes were
evacuated, but have since been allowed to return. At this point, the cause
of the derailment is under investigation.
