A house fire in Southeast Portland. Heavy flames shooting from a
second-floor window. Someone trapped inside. 
     
Joe McCarthy, sitting in front of his television, turned off the
forensics show on the Discovery Channel and grabbed the scanner squawking
on his dining room table. This, he thought, sounds like a good one.
