Suspect nabbed in White House lawyer kidnapping
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Police arrested a suspect Thursday in the kidnapping
and robbery of Deputy White House Counsel Mark Fabiani.
Fabiani was kidnapped by two armed men in a car January 26 [1996] while
walking home from an Alexandria, Virginia commuter train stop.
He told police his abductors drove him into Washington and forced him to
withdraw cash from an automatic teller machine. Fabiani told police the
kidnappers abandoned him unharmed on a nearby corner.
Fabiani had been returning home after a long day at the U.S. District
Court where first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton had testified before a
grand jury investigating the Whitewater affair.
