Pike Electric also is working in Prince George, Co., Va. They are doing a
great job here. Part of my power line grid crosses a swamp. One of the
power poles in the swamp sheared by storm damage and they were able bypass
the pole and somehow get power restored. Pike Electric has a significant
number of frequencies to include uhf and they have presence in southwest
Virginia, most of North Carolina and part of Georgia. They are a multi-state
operation. There are no electrical companies or public utilities licensed
on 49 mhz. in Va. The few licensees in 49 mhz. tend to be Georgia Pacific
and other forestry related operations and an occasional general contractor.
Since my power has been out, I have not been able to monitor them, but I
suspect the 49 mhz. frequencies mostly are truck to truck comms. If they
have a local staging area, a temporary base may be installed in trailer or
like structure.
