All,
In the early 1300 hour EDT, CG 6527 (HH-65, CGAS Atlantic City) was working
with CG Activities Baltimore (157.100) reporting that he had just dropped a DMB
(Data Marker Buoy) and was beginning his search in the area of 3918N/7616W.
CG 6527 also reported that he had no joy contacting an unspecified chief of a
fire battalion # 33 on 154.95. CG 6527 then contacted Fire Boat 219 (probably
Baltimore County) on 157.1 and informed him of the lack comms with the
battalion chief. Fire Boat 219 agreed to be the comms liason between 6527 and the
fire dept.
A Maryland National Guard OH-58A (# 73-21929, Weide AAF) was working with
Weide on 126.2 informing Weide that he was on 156.8 trying to contact assets
involved in the search. 929 then contacted Activities Baltimore & CG 6527 on 157.1
and identified himself as Recon 29. CG 6527 informed Recon 29 that they were
unfamiliar with the local geography and they opined that they would be better
equipped to search over the water areas while Recon 29 could search over the
land areas such as Pooles Island, etc.
In the mid 1300 hour CG 6527 reported searching in the area of 3920N/7615W.
At 1341 Recon 29 reported negative search results. CG 6527 asked Activities
Baltimore several times to clarify the SAR tasking, because they ended up over
the Gunpowder River and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, causing some consternation
with the controllers at Phillips AAF. Beacuse of concerns raised by CG 6527,
Recon 29 contacted Activities Batimore (157.1) and offered to search the
Hart-Miller Island area.
Activities Baltimore (157.1) was also in contact with CG 41359 (41-ft utility
boat) & CG 272005 (27-ft utility craft) who were also involved in the search.
At 1350 CG 272005 reported that they had found a boat with three life jackets
on board and also a wallet on the floor of the boat.
Activities Baltimore, at the request of CG 6527, passed the following corner
points of the search area: 3920N/7620W; 3921N/7618W; 3917N/7617W; and
3916N/7619W.
At 1410 both Recon 29 and CG 6527 informed Activities Baltimore that they
were leaving the SAR area to refuel at Martin State Airport. At 1415 Recon 52
(OH-58A # 71-20452, Weide AAF) relieved Recon 29 in the SAR area.
At 1440 Activities Baltimore advised CG 41359 that CG 6527 was preparing to
depart from Martin State Airport and would be searching in a new area. CG 41359
aslo confirmed that they had assumed on-scene command from CG 272005.
All units were continuing their searches at 1500 when I had to leave the
radios.
