  For Bill and anyone else interested (you 895 owners, stay tuned - I've
got some big news for you)

  It seems that the majority of the people I know use ARC250 from BuTel
software; some other folks I know use Trunkstar 785. You can find links to
these packages (among others) at:

  http://www.strongsignals.net/access/content/software.html

  I'd advise staying away from Escanner; some people have had success,
others find it a dismal failure. As for Fairfax info, the one place to
check for trunking info is:

  http://www.trunkedradio.net

  You have to register (painless and free), but once you do, use the TRS
database to get what you need. A better method is if someone has a Fairfax
file that they can send you.
======================================
  Now for you 895 owners;
  Before the proliferation of software and net resources (not to mention
Winscan), there were 2 programs developed (free or shareware, I don't
remember which) that evidently worked quite well; but about the time
Winscan came along, these programs eventually vanished....until now.
  The 2 programs were called Freetracker and PC895. They are now available
on the Canadian BC895 Yahoo group at:

  http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/BC895XLT/

  If you do get Freetracker, as I understand it, you will need both the
database and the executable files (they are seperate). You will find this,
along with PC895, in the files section of the group.
  I didn't upload these programs, just hoping there are some interested
parties that would also find this info useful.
