Apparently there were already some units at 20 Ritchie, not sure what was
going on there.
The fire at 8733 Carroll yesterday was the second since March 10 when the
bldg was severly damaged by a fire started by an electrical short from the
melt of the BIG SNOW. Bldg was being renovated after that first fire - PIO
recording (240/777-2442) sez that yesterday's fire was caused by an
electrical short in a cable (I wonder if this was a pre-existing cable that
was damaged in the first fire?)
Last night a Cessna 310 (2-engine 4 psgr) coming into Mtgy Co Airpark just
before 10, hit a deer at ~80 knots as it was rolling out after landing. Rt
gear collapsed and the plane skittered off the runway - no one hurt (human,
anyway!); deer was venison. Or more like deerburger. FD units were called
to the scene and called hazmat units to pump out remaining fuel from the
plane. I went by there on the way home from work, after hearing the hazmat
call on the scanner, as I live right down the street and it was on the way.
Ch 7 remote unit pulled in right after me, then a dark blue F*rd van from
another TV station (unmarked) and a white Crown Vic, possibly an
interceptor, with a bunch of antennae and DC plates - probly another news
org.
By the way, if anyone's old enuf to remember Sky King, he flew a 310
("Songbird to Flying Crown, come in, Penny")
Then, about 10:30 or 11, there was something else going on out here
(Gaithersburg) - I didn't have the police channel activated and was in the
other room and couldn't hear the fire scanner well, so not sure what that
was, but heard (the obvious sound of) an MSP helicopter over toward the main
part of G'burg; then heard Trooper 8 call Syscom and say he was aborting due
to a storm cell, and to notify Trooper 3 who was already in "the area" (not
sure where/what "area"). But continued to hear one of them possibly
hovering for some time - went outside but nothing visible. Saw a MCP
cruiser swung thru here right after that which is pretty (make that
"extremely") unusual - generally we can't get 'em in here for anything short
of somebody bleeding...
Anybody know what that last might have been about?
Whew.
That shoud bring everyone up to date! :)
Regards to all,
Doug
