[Scan-DC] Scanner antenna ... inside attic or outside ground level???

I picked up an external antenna I want to use, but I have a question about 
its' placement.

I need to know if I'm better off putting it in the attic or outside at ground 
level.  If it goes in the attic, the cable run will be close to 200 feet 
since it will have to go outside, around then down to my study.  If it goes 
outside, it will have to be at ground level (about 20 feet lower then the 
attic), but the cable run will only be about 50 feet.  

Any suggestions???
