Larry,
I have been listening to the DC CAP pretty regularly over the past =
month. If
I had to put a figure on it I'd have to say they have had a CAP over DC =
for
about 95% of the time. If memory serves, The only time they have not had
fighters up in the last month were a few times when we had our worst =
weather
and also a couple of times when one of the cap fighters had a =
maintenance
issue they sent them home and were a little slow in getting replacements
airborne.=20
But overall, when I turn my scanner on they are conducting CAP ops. If =
they
are conducting training in this area, speaking about the current ANG =
unit
covering the CAP, I have yet to hear them.
I think the situation may be that this is Washington DC and maybe they =
are
putting a little more emphasis on coverage for it than they do for some =
of
the other known CAP areas. Went the threat level was dropped a color =
this
last time I honestly expected the CAPS to go quiet and they have not. I =
can
turn on a scanner and be pretty certain I will have 2 fighters and a =
tanker
talking with huntress most any time of any day. I don't hear the customs
helos very often as they probably are much lower to the ground and I am
about 40-50 miles from DC as the crow flies.
Now of course having said all that they will do a 180 on me and go to =
less
frequent CAP coverage.=20
