Since most are 'Unavailable' or 'Anonymous' on caller ID, your phone company
offers a 'Call intercept' service to screen these for you (for a fee,
naturally).  A blocked number never makes my house (forces them to speak to
a machine and first give their name ala collect calls), and 'unavailable's
have a distinctive ring, which I usually let the answering machine get.

Slightly more annoying is the 'Telezapper', which will kill most computer
assisted telemarketer calls, by simulating the tones that announce a
disconnected phone line.  This thing works, but it sort of drove me crazy.
