[Scan-DC] Off-topic - telemarketing

Turn it into a money making venture!!!

Do a net search on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) of 1991. You
can sue telemarketers for $500.00 per violation, and it's not odd to have
more than one violation per call. The *MAIN* thing is tell them to place you
on the "DO NOT CALL LIST". Each call back from the same company within *10
years* of this is a $500.00 violation itself. You can also do a net search
for "enigma12.zip". This is a freeware program that will assist you in
administratively tracking telemarketer's call from your computer.

TRUE STORY:

In 1998, I sued Long Fence & Home for $2000.00 for the violations racked up
during two calls. When they received my lawsuit paperwork, they promptly
apologized, and offered me $500. (which I later found out is the norm) to
drop everything. Instead of listening to the voice of reason, I was a hard
head, and took them to court for it all (they *really* pissed me off!!!).
End of story... Judge ruled in my favor, but only awarded me $23.50; $5.00
award plus $18.50 court costs (I pissed him off when I kept saying I was
entitled to the $500. per violation).

Since then, I couldn't wait to go after another one, but none have violated
this ever since.

As for spam, take a look at

it has stopped my spam, but it has slowed it down.

This is 'way off-topic, but I always get good answers from this list, and I
figure somebody's bound to know!

How the _h*ll_ do I get off the call lists of telemarketers??!!

Have seen somewhere that there's a number you can call to do so; does anyone
know anything about it?

By the way - same question re junk mail, and same question re spam email!

Thanks for letting me pick your collective brains!

Regards to all,

Doug
