Back on January 25, 2003, I posted some information about the proposed
Metro expansion to Dulles Airport. I work at Metro, and I will be part of
future meetings on this subject. Here are some of the things that are
being planned for the future expansion. The Dulles Airport Expansion
project will be owned and managed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and
Metro will be the technical manager for design and construction, and will
lease and operate the facility. The Federal Aviation Administration has
expressed concerns about Security for the project, specifically the Rail
Yard that will be located on Airport property and is considered a
substantial intrusion into Airport property.
The 24 mile long project starts at the spur between the East and West
Falls Church Stations, extends through Tysons Corner and the Dulles
International Airport, and ends at a Terminal Station at Route 772 in
Loudoun County. There are Four Stations in Tysons Corner, four Stations
in the mid corridor, one Station at Dulles Airport, and two Stations in
Loudoun County.
Emergency response issues may arise since the majority of the rail line
will be located in the median of the Dulles Connector Road, the Dulles
Airport Access Road, and the Dulles Greenway toll road. The current
emergency access points across the medium will be eliminated, and
alternate methods of access will have to be established.
This is a little background and just a few of the issues that have to be
addressed. I will gladly share further information from future meetings
that I attend. Eugene...
