NBFM, before these narrow channel splits, is +-5kHz deviation.  If you are
tuned only 2.5kHz off channel center frequency you may have a little
distortion or difficulty with weak signals, but I'd guess that with an old
scanner and a strong signal you'd hardly notice that it was off frequency.
