ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Two U.S. Air Force fighter jets scrambled
to the skies over Washington after the pilot of a small plane flew
into restricted airspace around Ronald Reagan Washington National
Airport.
The Air Force scrambled fighters shortly before 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Les Dorr said.
As the pilot headed west, Dulles International Airport suspended
departures for about 15 minutes, delaying two planes.
Dorr said it did not appear the pilot of the Beech 35 intended
to harm anyone by violating airspace.
The pilot landed at an airstrip in Front Royal, Va. The Warren
County Sheriff's Department reported deputies detained the pilot
for the Secret Service.
Calls to the Secret Service were not immediately returned.
