Hello Folks,
I am new to scanning and have been at it about a year or so now and just
stumbled across info for this list and signed up. I have been watching the
posts for the past few days a figured this is a good place to post my issue.
I recently moved to St. Mary's County and had to undertake the task of
figuring out the EDACS system they are bringing up to speed down here. I
have it pretty well licked but I have been noticing something that I would
not think is supposed to happen with a trunked system, but, what do I know.
I figured I would throw this out to some of you folks who might have heard
about this before.
My issue is concerning Talkgroup "785(DEC) 06-021(AFS)" , which is the
info posted for our Fire Operations - Dispatch 1 on
http://www.prestons.org/scanner/ . I have been hearing calls from another
county/city. I am not faliliar with Baltimore but I could swear that what I
am hearing is from up there. One thing I hear is that is uncommon is that
the dispatcher will tell the units to switch to talkgroup 1, 2 etc. I do
know for certain that the calls being made are not St. Mary's County. I
think I have heard St. Mary's calls go out on the same talkgroup, but don't
quote me on this. I'll try to watch it and make sure.
I am reasonably certain that I have my three trunkers programed correctly. I
hear the same things on all 3 trunkers. So it is not an issue with only one
scanner, which leads me to believe that the problem is not on my end. By the
way, just in case it helps, I am using 3 handheld scanners, Pro-92, 94
,&94A. None of these are hooked up to any external antenna, factory rubber
duckie only.
Does anybody recognize the Talkgroups above? Or does anybody have any
feedback as top why I am hearing this other area? I would love to be able to
eliminate this as I don't really give a hoot about listening to this other
area as I do not even know where it is. I hate to lockout the Talkgroup as
it is posted as our county's main Fire Channel.
I have another question or two and will post as seperate emails.
Any info on this one would be greatly appreciated.
