Big kaboom planned for US Airways Arena

(Landover-AP) -- You've got less than a week to take one last look at
the U-S Airways Arena, for soon it will be dust. 

At eight o'clock Sunday morning, the building will be blown up to make
way for a shopping center. You can come out and watch the implosion from
along Central Avenue.

Drivers will need to know that the Beltway will be closed for about
half-an-hour during the blast, starting around 7:50 am Sunday.

The arena was once home to the Bullets and the Capitals, as well as
numerous concerts. But that all changed when the MCI Center opened five
years ago.

Now, the plan is to turn the more than 50 acres in Landover into a
shopping area called The Boulevard at The Capital Center. It's expected
to open next fall, and include Borders Books and Linens N' Things.
