-->From UnidenBC250D Yahoo Group 11/18/2002:::

The cutover to our new system has been delayed by issues unrelated to
the radio system. It now appears that we will be cutting over sometime
after the first of the year so listening will continue to be easy at
least until then. I have a personal 785D on order that I will program
to listen to the Montgomery Co. Fire/Rescue talk-groups once I have it
in hand (a date which seems to be as flexible as our cutover date).
Once that is done I will have the programming posted on our webpage for
anyone that is interested in being able to listen to our activity on the
new radio system.

In addition once we are on the new system we will continue to simulcast
154.160 (current channel 2 - dispatch and routine operations) with the
Dispatch talk-group on the new system. In addition we will also
simulcast 153.950 (current channel 1 for incident operations) with the
Operations talk-group on the new system under normal circumstances.
This is a flexible patch that may be moved to another talk-group should
we need to communicate with units that are VHF capable but don't have
800 radios. The Operations talk-group will handle routine incident
activity in the county, complex incidents will get assigned to a set of
incident talk-groups which will not be simulcast on a VHF channel under
normal circumstances. The channel 2 patch is a hardwired patch on the
outbound side that the dispatcher cannot turn off so all dispatch
traffic will always be broadcast across 154.160. The in-bound side of
the channel 2 patch is selectable by the dispatcher in case there is a
hung transmitter on the VHF system. Once we are on the new system there
will be a noticeable improvement in VHF coverage as it has been upgraded
to a 10 site simulcast infrastructure for both VHF channels. This
infrastructure is only accessible from our new communications center so
until we cutover to the new system at the new center we will continue
operating on our existing VHF infrastructure.

Hope this helps.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue
Public Safety 2000 Manager
