Nextel

True

Making the switch UHF/LTR (or any other format) most of the time is cost prohibitive
since it involves new subscriber units that cost several hundred $$$. Their only chance is
if there is a 800 MHz system operated by a competitor that their radios can be retuned to.
Nextel will subsidize the cost of their subscriber unit for the new customers. Nextel has
a subscriber unit that retails for $49.99 (with contract) how can a mom and pop SMR shop
subsidize 100 subscriber units at a cost of several hundred $$$???
They Can't-
End of story

Some that can afford new equipment do.
