Koss has discontinued the Speedzone. The replacement is QZ99, which is
passive. Koss claims 15 dB attentuation. My David Clarks claim 25 dB.
I spoke to Bose, and got differing info. The Mont. Mall store claims that
they would help at FedEx, but the factory says that they would not because
the active noise suppression doies not work on transients. On the other
hand, race track noise is, I suppose, more or less constant. The factory
rep thinks that the Clark would work better because it has a more massive
shell. They like my arrangement with ear buds in the Clark shell. Bose
refuses to release any technical data.
Anyway, the Montgomery Mall Bose store says that they have a nine (9) month
money back guarantee. But the set costs $300.

Hi Everyone, The Time is 1100 hours EST. The California Highway Patrol is
comming in fullm quioeting on 39.26 Also I am hearing them on 39.44
38.60 as well as a full quieting signal on 39.88 The weather in tjhe
Shenandoah Valley today is rain heavy at times. The signal sounds like a
single skip signal but from that Distance it seems hard to believe unless
the
reflecting layer is extremely high. I cannot find 42 mjhz freq skipping as
yet guess the band is on its upward swing Joe Leonard wb4igu

What you need for NASCAR (and air shows, field day and anything else
noisy)...is a set of Koss "SpeedZone" headphones from www.koss.com which
were designed for precisely this purpose.
Got 'em here and they work extremely well. They are passive (shutting out
the noise) rather than active (cancelling the noise) so they do not need
batteries, an electronic circuit or anything else. And they are not going
to pick up any RFI.

You've come to the right place. There are at least two of us on the list
who own scanners and attend the University of Maryland.
The University of Maryland is on a Motorola Type II trunking system, and
the Police use it.
The frequencies are:
866.4125
867.6625
868.4125
868.5375
868.9875 <-- data channel
Here's a list of talk groups:
1200 4b0 University Police (Dispatch)
1296 510 University Police (Tac 1)
1392 570 University Police (Tac 2?)
1488 5d0 University Police (used for training?)
1584 630 University Police (Student Police Aides)
1680 690 Building Security (Burglar alarms, locks, etc)
3376 d30 Shuttle-UM (Main)
3568 df0 Shuttle-UM (MOC Channel)
4368 1110 Fire Marshall (used for fire drills mostly)
5264 1490 Telecom?? (Change fuses, football hookups, dialtones)
6448 1930 Facilities
7344 1cb0 Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center
7440 1d10 Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center
7536 1d70 Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center? (Stage crew?)
9936 26d0 Call-a-Ride
These are all the ones we've found so far. There may be more,
Call-a-Ride was added this year and there may have been more that
got added that we just don't regularly hear. Credit goes to Jesse Kovach
for figuring all this stuff out.
No idea if you can hear it out in NoVA, but it's worth a shot, let us know
if you can.
