You also have to take into account from the time you hear the verbal
dispatch, units are already rolling.
Usually, they'll get the print out before the actual alarms are toned.
Usually, they are already in their rigs rolling.
The dispatch is just the formal process. In Mont Co., we've sometimes
received calls from ECC on the direct line telling us of a box alarm to =
go
'roll' before the tones go out.=20
The tones, not only notify the stations (sounds klaxon, flashes bunk rm
lights) it also times traffic lights in front of the station and =
triggers
the doors automatically (if needed.)

When a 911 call comes in to a dispatch center the calltaker is sitting =
in=20
front of a computer screen entering the information on the screen. When =
the=20
calltaker presses the send button the call goes to the dispatcher =
screen=20
(police or fire). Also certain classes of calls such as "shooting, =
stabbing,
DOA, are sent to the street patrol supervisors, K9, and or other field =
or=20
specialty units. High priority calls like a shooting which would have a =
priority one are to be immediately dispatched. If there are no police =
units=20
to send most dispatchers will at least voice the call to the area=20
supervisor. The whole process usually takes under 1 minute.
That said do mistakes happen?, sure they do, but you asked for the =
average=20
response and that sir is the average response.
