All,
In the late 1200 EDT hour two DC ANG F-16s (Brave 1 flight) from 121st FS at
Andrews were scrambled from their DC CAP mission in reaction to a target that
had violated the Washington DC TFR.
The F-16s used their Victor 1 (139.9) as an A-A while working with Wash Dep
(269.0). The F-16s checked in with Huntress (not heard) and reported to Wash
Dep that Huntress wanted the fighters to pursue the target in a covert,
unobserved mode even though the target, by that time, had left the TFR.
The fighters were also told to work with Dulles Approach (350.2). The
fighters had trouble picking up the target on their radars--by that time the
target was at 1,000 ft. Both fighters finally acquired the target and
shadowed him at a distance of about 8 miles.
Brave 02 was in constant contact with Huntress throughout the scramble and
acted as a relay to Brave 01. After about 10 minutes, Huntress (through
Brave 02) called off the pursuit and told the fighters to return to the DC
CAP.
After breaking off their pursuit the fighters were switched to 343.775 ( a
new freq for me) and were returned back to their CAP mission. Not sure if
this is a new DC ANG UHF freq, ZDC or Huntress freq.
