[Scan-DC] disappointing

Chris, I do not think it necessarily has anything to do with patience
learning the scanner. At least this is not my case. I know how to program
2 different brands of handheld scanners, one brand of mobile amateur radio
and a different brand of handheld amateur radio from their keypads. But
once I did this, having the ability to dump each to a PC for backup and for
ease of future changes (and there are plenty of reasons to change programmed
information) was definitely for me. Life is far too short and there are far
too many other things to do than to reprogram 200 or 300 channels and 100 or
more talkgroups when the PC can do it for me. And I find the PC capability
especially helpful when travelling to other areas. All I have to do is dump
a profile to the scanner or the two-way and I'm off. When I get home it is
a simple matter of returning the radio to it's home profile.

Having the files in a public location is a great idea and I will certainly
try to contribute when I have the time. I spent a lot of time setting my
245 (and other radios) up a certain way and after a lot of research and I'm
only slightly bothered that the next guy can take my profile and use as is
and not invest the time or sweat that I did. But I hope to offset this with
the availability of profiles from other places around the country so that I
can save myself future time and sweat. A little give and take, I hope.

I think the issue here might just be one of people taking the time to
prepare the files and then uploading. In the time it took me to write this
e-mail I probably could have created a file or two and uploaded but I guess
that'll have to be another day now.

Rick
