Thanks, Albert, for the input and information about how fiber
optics are
replacing microwave transmissions related to telephone useage, which
includes, of course, faxes and e-mail. I do believe, however, that
uplinks to, and especially downlinks from satellites, which do use
microwave frequencies, remain highly vulnerable, and represent, if
you will, the achilles heel in terms of intercepts that do not
require the cooperation of the owner of the network. From what I
understand, these are the transmission routes that provide for massive
monitoring capabilities.
