At Andrews, they made me turn on my Cellular telephone as well as my digital
camera to verify it worked. 

Yes, you can plant a explosive in a device and make it work. However, I
think they do that to see if you get nervous or to see if anything is
obviously wrong or out of place.

It's a deterrent. That's all.

At Andrews, they did not ban my scanner. I made my own decision at the last
minute not to take it. I envisioned problems that could happen, such as
being denied entry or having it seized. So I left it in the car.

However, come to think of it, I didn't see anyone with scanners.
