I was on duty yesterday, the third day for our new 800 system. The Sheriff's
department has already gone to 800. The Dispatch channel is and will continue
to be simulcast. But I am told that the other channels aren't being
simulcast. Frankly, there weren't that many interesting ones, apart from Ch2
for western end ops, Ch3 for the east, and Ch6 for talking to Loudoun and
Reston ERs. And we have been using cellphones more and more for talking to
the ERs, not so much for patient confidentiality but for better communication
quality regarding asking for and receiving medication orders. I'm still not
sure I'm going to invest in a chunk of change to get a new scanner for my
private vehicle. The dispatch simulcast gives the basics of all fire and
rescue calls. It probably gives more information, come to think of it. You
can actually hear more responding units now. Bill Nicholson
