Since the beginning of the year I have scanned in Bradley, Newark, Seattle,
Dulles, and JFK and no one "freaked out" or really even gave me more than a
passing glance.
Re. security checks: My carry-on consisted of two scanners, two cameras, a
long lens, a flash, an MP3 player, headphones, a lead bag with film, and a
bunch of other typical camera bag stuff.
The most comprehensive security was in JFK where they pulled the bag for a
complete inspection including the explosives swab thing on every item (and
my sneakers) and then x-ray machine again for the bag minus the lead bag
and film. The easiest (most dangerous?) was in Seattle where the x-ray
operator recognized the shadow of the film bag but the visual inspection
consisted only of opening the top of the camera bag and peering in at the
contents on top, no hand inspection of the contents of the lead bag.
