Like some probably do I filed my license away in a file cabinet 10 years ago and
forgot about it.  A few days ago I got an email from a helpful ham who had
visited my QRZ page and noted that my license had expired a few days earlier.

This began a horrible experience with the FCC licensing system with FRN, CORES,
multiple user names and passwords (with multiple requirements), links that
failed to open and so forth.  I finally waded through it all, made my payment
and sat back to wait.

This morning I got an email with a link to visit to download my license, since
the government is forgiving student loans and can't afford to actually mail a
license.  (It's highly presumptive in my mind to assume that everyone has
Internet and email, but that's another issue.)  Almost needless to say, like
most things in government, the link didn't work.  Thoughtfully, the FCC provided
a telephone number to call in case the link didn't work.  I guess they know
their system.  I called the number.  Remarkably, I got a cheery woman who
informed me that they were having trouble with the system and to keep trying.

I did and after an interminable wait while it downloaded, I got my license.   I
guess I should frame it and put on the wall.
