Really wanted to meet up with the group on Mt. Bigelow, and join the
fun. Many thanks to Joe, K3TYE, for the welcoming emails. Got called
in to work for the planned gathering two Saturdays prior, and ran into
other problems the Friday before Field Day, on a planned day off to go
up and help with the setup.

Ended up doing a part time effort at home (Tucson mountains area) in
the 1E category. All inverted vee wire antennas, maximum apex at 48
feet. Inverted L for 80m.

CW only, 15 hours of operation, low power category.

Missed only AK, PR, and NL ARRL sections.

 My post to 3830scores.com below....

 Comments:

Part time effort this year, too many other things going on, including
a really
bad tempered rattlesnake encounter in the front yard :-(

Wire antennas only, maximum apex height at 48 feet.
Very quiet generator, converted to propane.

 Aloha -

I too participated. My goal was to go back to QRP. Dropped power from
75 to 5 watts. Spent about the same time operating. Worked 15% fewer
Q's (51 vrs 60 last year). QSO score went from 240 to 495. I had an
extra 100 bonus points for the "message". Total score went from 540
points to 895 points.
Wonder if we'll be able to stay home next year. I was surprised they
didn't close the mountain. Didn't really want to go up there anyway.
Too much trouble to set up stuff at my age and we had company this
weekend. Daughter from Oregon, son-in-law from Texas, and a
grand-daughter from Glendale. The $ paid for meals was worth it.
