I looked at the QRZ.com page for XV1X. It includes:
"Unfortunately, On May, 22nd disaster happened. The 23m tall vertical for
80m was struck by lightning. This destroyed all my equipment, including K3,
MFJ keyer, Remote antenna switch, digital power meter, power supplies and
many other household equipment. Fire broke out in the house."

  He has pictures of a K3 with a "lightning hole" in the top, and other
damaged equipment.  Fortunately he survived.
