Wes,
One last point -- 40m SN DX is challenging enough for normal 100W FT8 power. Darrel aa7fv clearly has shown with 40m WSPR data, that the more power and antenna gain the better.
But, if you can't hear em, you can't work em. You might hear em, but not work em, if they are running 1500W, and you're not.
1500W FT8 is the ultima at this time, if used by both stations.

Worked VE4CEL on FT8 @ 1918. Before me he worked an IK station, who I didn't see.
