Dave,

In my review of your 40m DX path, your QSO was a 40m Gray-line/DAYTIME path.

It appears the path started totally in the Gray-line region 1/2 hr. before
SR, but exited into the DAY region and terminated in the DAY region 42 min
before SS. Half of the path was traveling somewhat parallel to the
terminator but was in the Day Region.

So, strictly specking, this was a 40m DX DAYTIME path, since part of the
path was on the DAY side of the terminator.

You also bring up an important point: If one studies the gray-line now in
the early AM, there is great opportunity along the gray-line into the EU
area in our early AM. As your data shows, the path does NOT need to be
strictly IN the gray-line. Although half that path was being absorbed by
D-absorption, it was sufficiently low to allow the QSO.

Where the presented 40m DX DAY Corridor will ALSO come into play is later
today after noon. You should AGAIN be able to work Easterly and NE into EU
area, and other DX, as the terminator starts to approach you from the East.
Take a listen.

Don't forget to listen Westerly in the early AM after SR for DX. Last year,
I worked YB and YC stations on 40m SSB at about 9:30am on Dec. 23. This was
about 2 hours after SR.

As Annette suggested, these inputs are important to encourage others to
listen for 40m DX during our day.

I truly hope someone works or even hears 40m DX as we get closer to Dec. 21
and closer to our NOON.

Good Morning All,

I don't know if this is some of that strange 40 meter propagation that Bill
talked about last night, but I just worked SM4OTI (Steve) on 40 meters CW at
around 1330Z. It wasn't great copy, but it was a QSO. That's a bit late
for propagation to Europe isn't it??? It's mid day for Steve and just
slightly before sunrise here. Of course by this time of year Sweden is in
the dark most of the time! Hi.

Anyway, it was a surprise that I could even be heard with my 100 watts.
There's probably some other explanation for it, but I couldn't help but
think of Bill's presentation. I was expecting to only hear stations west of
me.
