 I got him on 20 working split (+1) on my first try, 14012 at 2320.  They must have just arrived when I found them.

 Finally put him in the log on 17M.  What he appeared to be doing is 
taking a list.  He'll work so many stations and then write down so many 
more, then come back and work them before taking another list.  After 
calling him for several hours this kind of fell into place.  He is not 
using F/H mode but working them one on one.
