OK - I did go figure and here it is: (1) the band was open (2) you had a good enough path (3) even if your vertical is a compromise antenna (maybe too short like most 160 verticals are) you had a reasonably low angle of radiation going for you (4) 500 watts is nothing to sneeze at - it certainly got your signal where you wanted it to go arriving high enough above the noise level that the op at their end could hear you well enough to make the QSO (5) the DX gods smiled upon you - that means you lucked out 🙂 (6) you have good operating skills (7) you are one of “the deserving” - an attitude and mentality in the DX community that is arrogant beyond belief - it also scores a zero on the scale of things which matter - all IMHO. (8) now, having said all of those things, any way you look at it, you did OK. Congrats mi amigo.
I doubt if you have any idea who I am. I am a member of SADXA, am so small of a pistol that derringer should be my name, and I show up at SADXA meetings from time to time - I even had my picture taken there once.
