It's a weak-signal mode, it's not a low power mode.

The OP discussed with me wanting to make (maybe still does) a 20-meter QSO over 
an 80-mile path.  That's a QRO path length.

My K3 plus KPA500 happily runs at 400-500 W out.  As long as there are stations 
who don't answer me on the first call I'm sure not going to reduce power:-)

This is a DX club after all.
