Wes,
Congrats on reaching 15k and level 4. I'm still about 2700 short. Don't
know if I will be able to get those in the next two weeks. I really like
that 160m contest. Unfortunately this year I was out of town and was not
able to participate. A couple years back when I was still in Oregon for
some reason the conditions were really bad and I only had about half the
Q's I had the year previous. I didn't think much of that until almost a
year later I got a certificate in the mail that claims I took first place
in Oregon. Go figure. Here in AZ I just have a 43' vertical so on 160m my
antenna looks like a 150pf cap in series with about 4 ohms of radiation
resistance in series with about 8 ohms of ground losses. This is all fed
through 200' of coax with an in-shack tuner. Needless to say.. it sucks!
Generally speaking, nobody can hear me. Oh well, I do have a few contacts
on 160 but that's about all.
I'm sure there must have been quite a few of red-badges on that weekend so
there were plenty of points to be taken. I did work the last hour of the
10m contest this weekend and probably picked up a few more. I think in the
next few days I just might have to break down and actually call CQ. I
like to concentrate on the warc bands. Especially 30m.
Congrats again on 15k, there are probably only a few in the club that will
get there.
See you at the party this Friday.
73,
