[RVRC] FW: Possable new 2m repeater site

Jim Nannery and RVRC,

I have to echo Bill's comments in addition to one of my own.

My concern is that of the effective signal from these limitations (losses) of multiplexing, ???? feet of transmission line loss and the power limit of 25 watts output from the transmitter. Also, the antennas will be side-mounted on the tower which will alter the radiation pattern and favor what direction?

The 2.5 dB "gain" is for which/what?..........RX or TX? If it weren't for the $10,000 cost I would say it maybe a worthwhile attempt. But unless there will be a power amplifier up at the antenna to recover the line and multiplexer losses.......I just can't make a conscientious decision.

Can we have more technical info? Block diagram with losses/gains.

On the surface the thought of being up at 900 feet AMSL seems fabulous but with what limitations and net performance (at $10k).

The current site with the equipment that is there is virtually useless, but the current site was supposed to have long term viability??

My only concerns are:
Even with the nice elevation how effective will be with only 25 watts?
After spending $10k, will we have an agreement that except for malfeasance, that
our installation will have long term viability?? Or will it be like every other state collocation, that upon notice for any reason, we have 30 days to vacate the site???
Since access to the site will be limited, will we be able to have remote control?
If this is our best option and a solid investment, I’m in favor of moving forward.

It Is a government site as such we must comply with the requirements set forth and use the vendor they require. We would need to use the Icom radio, and run 25W with no preamps or amps. However, we will be at RX 940 AMSL & TX 880 AMSL fed with 1-5/8 hardline we will have a 2.5 dBd gain on the system. We will be on backup power as well. Cabling required will cost about $2500.00, the expansion channels needed is $2000.00, outdoor weather proof climate controlled cabinet $3000.00 and the install of power and equipment in to the state system. With that said I would say 8-10 thousand total. This is a good site and has some ham state police and federal equipment. Site access will be limited and this is pending state police approval. After this i

We need the approval for the money ASAP so that we can start the approval process with the state. If possible could we take an email/electronic vote on this so that we can expedite getting our approval from the state.
