[RVRC] Ballot for membership, K2EEI

But if the By-Laws and Constitution ARE to be
effective ''for the club's well-being'', then it is important to be
followed! There is and has always been a standard policy and method of
accepting new members. Yes, we want new members......and.........we want
members to be 'active'. It remains in the large part, the responsibility of
the 'sponsors' to campaign for and make their candidate known to the
members. This doesn't have to be a long-drawn-out process but a simple
pathway for membership.
Introduce the candidate, give the candidate 2 meetings to be familiar with
the members and vice-versa and then take a vote!! Simple! Expected!
(It was said that we had about 90 members before this year; it wasn't the membership
rules that discouraged their joining nor caused their leaving!)
RVRC has existed for 80+ years following
it's established rules.

Additionally,

Yes, we do want membership..........but if it's only because RVRC wants their 'dues'
then I feel the effort is misdirected. If the club direction is to create
expensive projects that involve only spending on ''the repeaters'', then the
real effort should be in FUNDRAISING as Susan had pointed out.

Let's face this fact, folks, RVRC does absolutely NOTHING except the one
fund-raising event....."hamfest". Of the 60+ members in the club, how many
use our repeaters? Perhaps the remainder of the membership had joined to
experience more activities! We lost 30% of our membership just this
year.....all at one time!
If it is the desire of the membership to pursue only development and
maintainance of the repeaters, doubling our membership will not provide the
funds needed and other fund raising programs must be entertained; Susan's
point.
Here is an excerpt from the ARRL ''The Club President's Handbook"

Maintaining Interest;
Occasionally, when there is a lot of business to discuss, the club can spend
a profitable evening without a program, but a club that tries to exist for
very long this way will find itself gradually losing attendance. It is
important to have a program of some sort, and preferably one that will be of
interest to a majority of club members.

Members are the lifeblood of the club. They are difficult to find, more
difficult to keep, and at times, difficult to work with. Members come in a
wide variety of shapes, colors, sizes, backgrounds, skills experience, and
levels of motivations. They have their own reasons for participating and
their own specific needs which must be met if they are to continue to be
members.

The 'club' is even more, a social club where members share their activities,
experiences, knowledge and love of ham radio!

The failure to ''maintain interest'' is the reason we have lost membership, not
because of our membership acceptance policy and procedures.

Let's just follow the way we've been accepting new members and when changes are
desired...........someone propose it and change the rules....by VOTE!

P.S. A good beginning to revitalize RVRC would be for the president to create an "activities committee'', appoint a 'chairperson' and
bring programs into the meetings. We have many members with a large variety of skills who could present short programs of their skills at meetings.
We should be inviting guests and radio amateurs to present ham radio and electronics programs at meetings. There is little better than ''hands-on'' programs to infuse interest! (Even a video of interest can work!)

  To RVRC Club,

I am very sorry to see these e-mails!!! Most people complaining were at the meeting and did not object to sending out the ballot.  At the meeting was the best place object.

For anyone not at the meeting one reason this membership was accepted is because the candid showed up to the July meeting which was canceled.  This was discussed at the meeting said to be his first meeting since he came out.  Therefore, this was his second meeting.  No one at the meeting objected at any point of the discussing or when asked about send out this e-mail.

I agree with Sue (kb2sfh) that the political quibbling and undermining each other all the time is a shame and needs to stop.

And this is an example of why RVRC is losing members and hardly gaining new ones, all this political quibbling and undermining each other all the time, spending money you don't have and not wanting to put effort into additional fundraising that I have been pushing for in the past. Who really wants to sit at meetings and listen to such counterproductive infighting and backstabbing? I even am considering not renewing my membership next January for reasons such as this among personal situations.  So please keep acting the way you all are and soon this club will just fold into nothing.

    Â RVRC MEMBERS;

Â To begin with I wish to express my strong approval for new
    Â memberships.
    Â .
Â Bringing new members is always a good foundation to operate
an amateur radio club.  But in this case, the procedure
is wrong.  (1) It is wrong on two counts; the RVRC
Â Constitution and by-laws specifically spell out the
requirement for two readings of the application.  The
Â purpose of this specification is to make the membership
familiar with the candidate.  It has always been the
Â RESPONSIBILITY of the SPONSORS to make their candidate(s)
Â known to the membership campaign and prove the candidates
Â qualification and suitability. (2) Then it is also important
Â for the candidate to attend those two readings so the
Â membership can become familiar with that candidate for whom
Â the sponsors are asking for membership acceptance and it
Â demonstrates a strong desire from the candidate to be an
    Â active member!
    Â .
Â The summary discharge and ignorance of the rules are
unacceptable!  What 'rules' will be next to be
violated?  The officers can not make such a
Â determination as to what 'rules' will be ignored or
violated.  If it is the determination of the majority
Â of voting members to suspend a rule....a vote must be
    Â taken.
    Â .
Â I object to this behavior of ignoring the Constitution and
Â By-Laws; if we don't like a rule, change it first.
    Â .
Â This candidate, Lee, K2EEI, sounds like he would make a
solid and valuable member.........but who knows?  The
Â sponsors are responsible to present their candidate to the
Â membership and the membership must have the opportunity to
Â know who it is they're voting for membership.
    Â .
Â If it is the desire of a voting member (full member) to
Â change our Constitution and/or By-Laws and eliminate such
Â requirements......then it must be submitted as such to the
Â membership, at a meeting, then the membership has an
Â opportunity to decide by VOTE!

Â This issue is not a 'simple' issue. This is a major issue
Â and violation of our rules.
