Another construction project is in the offing on Rt. 18

Construction aimed at easing one of the worst traffic bottlenecks in Middlesex County is set to get underway soon. A $26 million project on Route 18 North will add a lane from just north of Westons Mill Pond -- right after the Turnpike's Interchange 9 -- to Route 1 South. The goal is to have three lanes that will ease congestion as traffic exiting the Turnpike merges. There's already a project well underway in East Brunswick revamping the Exit 9 set-up. The widening project is slated to start next Friday, the 15th, and last about two years. Most of the work will be done during off-peak hours. A public information session by the DOT will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at New Brunswick City Hall.
