A 12-week state DOT pilot program starts August 3rd along Route One near Harrison Street in West Windsor, and it's intended to get rid of slowdowns on the highway. If it works, the changes could become permanent. Currently, the right lane of the highway backs up as drivers line up around the "circle" to make left-turns onto Washington Road. So now they'll be closed off, and southbound drivers will have to make a u-turn at the Alexander Road flyover, come back and make a right turn onto Washington Road. Northbound drivers will need to use the Scudders Mill flyover to make a similar maneuver. They'll need to do the same to turn left onto Harrison Street, as the u- and left-turn jughandle there will be blocked as well.

As someone who goes through this goat rope of 4 miss-timed traffic
lights in the space of a little over a half mile...we'll see if this is
a welcome change. Hoping so. I'm usually backed up all the way to
Forrestal Village southbound at 4PM because of the poor (well, not
changed since the 40s) design of this section of the Lincoln Highway.
