My friend Dudley WA5QPZ works with my cousin Greg K5GJ at Flex Radio. Today
they put a live audio/video stream online (see URL below). One of my
contacts was a Polish station on PSK31 - at the same time as the QSO, Dudley
had my signals streaming across the screen on the Flex Radio 1500! He also
heard me loud & clear on CW with 1 watt with the FT-817! He was showing me
the filtering - he narrowed my signal down to 10 Hertz! <G> Pretty wild.
There's a chat capability on the website - here's the log of our chat. I
think you'll agree this is pretty cool stuff!
------
Log follows:
------
N2GJ: N2GJ Kingston, NJ here
Dudley: Hi there.
N2GJ: Hey, Dudley - how are you?!~ I see that running on Win7 64 bit yay!
N2GJ: I'm just TOO excited!
N2GJ: the new skin (is that the right word) is great looking!
Dudley: There are several others.. 12 I think
N2GJ: wow, is that PSK at the same time as SSB?
N2GJ: I think i'll go down and see if i hear these guys on my transceiver
Dudley: I bet Europe is coming in much better there than in central Texas
N2GJ: is there a camera taking video off the screen, or something else?
Dudley: Coming directly from the computer.
n2gj: that's too cool!
n2gj: wonder if you can hear me if I xmit!
Dudley: What Freq
n2gj: i hear myself!
n2gj: little delay
Dudley: Pick a clear freq
Dudley: how about 194?
n2gj: 213?
Dudley: Good Signal
Dudley: S8
Dudley: S9
n2gj: nice
Dudley: you will never hear the 5 watts
n2gj: i'm running 100 w icom proIII
n2gj: aw
n2gj: g5rv at 60' no beam unfortunately
n2gj: i could try my ft-817 5w
n2gj: see if you hear me
n2gj: gimme a min
Dudley: See all the signals around us there?
n2gj: that's me on cw
n2gj: don't have a mike
n2gj: 5 w
Dudley: Do it again
n2gj: 1 w
Dudley: I can go to 10 cycles wide
Dudley: how's that?
n2gj: wow that is amazing
n2gj: 1 watt
n2gj: how sensitive is that rx?
Dudley: I am not sure on the 1500.
n2gj: 5 watts vy loud!
n2gj: hi hi
Dudley: Let me open the passband up.
n2gj: 2.5 w
n2gj: just a slight latency but that's too be expected
n2gj: doesn't make a great CW sidetone from here!
n2gj: ;-)
n2gj: gotta get a mike for this yaesu
n2gj: got the rig from a friend's estate = he left it to me but there were
no accessories with it, just the rig
Dudley: Yes the delay would be distracting.
n2gj: heck the price is right!
n2gj: still 1 watt (or whatever the lowest power is on this thing is pretty
good to TX
n2gj: could we try PSK?
n2gj: do you have that setup where PowerSDR speaks to DM780, etc?
Dudley: Sure
n2gj: I'll go to 14.070
wb4qda: I have decided we need to clone your brain
n2gj: calling sp3cfm who answered my cq on first call!
n2gj: can you see my sigs too?
Dudley: yes I did, there is someone in there with a really strange signal.
n2gj: i have the audio turned down
n2gj: running about 25 watts here on psk using a nue-psk modem, no pc, no
software at all!
n2gj: just have whatever software controls the PIC inside!
n2gj: i really don't have the resolution to read your screen here
n2gj: are those all qso's on the screen streaming by?
n2gj: my signal look ok to you?
n2gj: great that you can reconfigure screens like that
n2gj: very cool
Dudley: It looked just fine. NP..
n2gj: thanks
n2gj: just about any way you wanna look at it
Dudley: I don't know if you can tell, but I can pick out any PSK signal.
n2gj: looks like you just click on it
n2gj: how does it know all the callsigns?
n2gj: at one time?
Dudley: In DM780? It reads the calls and keeps a log on whether or not I
have talked to them before.
Dudley: Need to go, I'll be moving around.
n2gj: ok
n2gj: take care hi to greg
