I'm sure you know this already, Gerry, but it doesn't hurt to remind you 
that the easiest (not necessarily shortest) distance between two points 
inside a house, may involve routing wires outside of the house. Prior 
owners of my house were apparently very creative in running wires down 
the backs of downspouts and so on. So there's an option in case you 
don't feel like drilling holes in the floor joists.
